Members of County Assembly, Board of Directors and Management of Tavevo Water and Sewerage Company Limited together with Losai Management Consultant Ltd team have today begun a (2) two days Stakeholders Validation Workshop to discuss a ten (10) year plan developed to propel the company to a leading provider of water and sanitation services in Kenya.
The document is expected to address challenges bedeviling the company such as financing; governance; high water loss levels; documentation & implementation of Standard Operating Procedures and inadequate staff capacity.
In his opening remarks, the speaker of the County Assembly of Taita Taveta, Mr. Wisdom Mwamburi assured the company of the full support of the members of the house. He further emphasized the importance of providing affordable water to the rural areas.
“This is the right direction. Putting money on an investment without a clear plan is waste of money,” he advised.
Key in the draft Strategic Plan is to increase water production from 15million to 60million litres per day, add water pipeline network by 50kilometre per year and reduce water losses from current 35% to 20% by 2032.

On sewer and sanitation services the company looks at building a Fecal Sludge Treatment Plant of Capacity 2,000m3/day and a sewerage system of capacity of 20,000m3/day in the next 10 years
To achieve this goal the company is looking to strengthen its fiscal stability by increasing billing and collection efficiency and pursuing other sources of funding from Ksh. 2.8 billion to Ksh. 15 billion by 2032.
The plan, cognizant to the risks that could hinder achievement of the set targets further proposes actions to mitigate the risks.
The role of climate change in reduced water quantities and sources cannot be ignored. The company will establish and implement disaster preparedness plans such as continuous protection of water sources, conservation, increased storage and limit wastage.
